The Power of Not Forcing

If you want a better life, stop pursuing it

Stop trying to be happy. Stop trying to be complete. Stop trying to be perfect. Stop trying to get validation and be liked by others. Stop trying to impress people. Stop trying to advance your career. Stop trying. The irony is, when you stop trying that hard, everything aligns for you to get to the next level. You’re getting out of your own way and you finally let yourself do the work without trying to do the work.

Like in the movie Matrix when Morpheus said to Neo: “Stop trying to hit me and hit me!”. Neo achieves mastery over himself once he lets go, once he stopped trying and entered Zen mode.

Stop pursuing. Stop trying to fulfill your human egoistic desires. They never run out and you’ll never be fulfilled. Stop setting goals. Stop thinking. Let yourself do what is supposed to do. Just observe. Stop interfering. Stop seeking success. Stop seeking abundance. Stop waiting for something. Stop seeking order. Everything is in order anyway. Chaos is an illusion. Go directly through it. Most probably is a shortcut. That was the case for me.

Chaos is a shortcut to growth. Stop being afraid of it. Stop trying to run away from it. Stop trying to escape it. Face it. Feel it. Go right through it. There’s no chaos in the eyes of the Universe. You’ll never be perfect and complete by hitting one desire after another. There always will be more opportunities. There always will be better cars. There always will be bigger houses. There always will be more money. There always will be more beautiful partners. There always will be bigger success. Accept your imperfection. That’s the point of hitting perfection. The perfect imperfection.

From that point on, everything starts changing, because a change in you, causes a change in your universe, don’t forget that. You’re transforming everything like a mental alchemist. And anyway, what’s the point of chasing perfection? Everything is perfect when you stop chasing. Because perfection is not an achievement but a realization. Perfection is everywhere. Perfection is a state of mind, an understanding, an inner treasure.

We curate our lives around this perceived sense of perfection, because we get rewarded in these short term signals: Hearts, likes, thumbs up. We conflate that with value, and we conflate it with truth, and instead, what it really is is fake, brittle popularity that’s short term and leaves you even more vacant and empty before you did it.

- Chamath Palihapitiya

Most people look for that treasure somewhere outside, somewhere far, without knowing that the treasure was within them all along. Just like in the book “The Alchemist”. The boy goes on in a journey to find a hidden treasure only to find out that the treasure was in the beginning where he started his journey.

Just like the story of “The acre of Diamonds”. A farmer that heard a lot of stories of other farmers that they found lands with diamonds, so he sold his own farm and went for a search of such a land only to find out later that the very farm he sold was sitting above an acre of diamonds.

The answer that you seek can be found right here and right now. You just have to stop trying to find it in order to find it, and most probably it’ll be right in front of you or it’ll popup in your mind like a hiccup. Stay present. Stay mindful. You do not get things by pursuing them. You attract them by the person you become.
